A holiday morning without school.
I’m assembling breakfast for the family, while Sprout works on a project at the dining table. I put a plate in the microwave.
“Dad?”
“Yeah?”
“Stereotypically, you and mom do the exact opposite of what you’re supposed to do.” A beat, then: “It’s awesome.”
I take a moment to appreciate what I’ve been told. “Well, hopefully that gives you freedom to be whoever you want to be.”
“Yeah.”
